Kenmore Upright Freezer 253.21741104 Loss of Power

Over the past 4 years or so, my Kenmore freezer has lost power about 4 times, losing all the food being stored.  All I have to do to "reset" the freezer is to unplug it, wait a few seconds, then plug it back in.  The freezer runs for about 6-9 months reliably, then unpredicably, it will againt shut itself down for some unknown reason and stay off until I discover the situation. Could this be a bad circuit board?  Does this freezer have a circuit board?  Anyone seen this problem and if so, how did you solve it?

Kenmore Upright Freezer 253.21741104 Loss of Power

Yes, it does have a control board. It is located under the rear of the freezer near the compressor. There was a service bulletin out a few years ago about the exact problem you are having. I will not be able to find out if your freezer falls under this design change until tomorrow when I get on my computer at the shop. What is happening is the board has a fault in it that won't allow it to come back on sometimes if the power blinks off and back on. I am not sure if the repair credit is still active but we have changed the control boards on many of these units free of charge as recently as a year ago. I will reply back when I find out for sure.

I have a kenmore upright frost free freezer mod #253.26432100. A couple of months ago everything defrosted and the unit was not running at all. I unplugged it cleaned it and plugged it back in, it turned on and seemed ok. We have been using it since. Last night it did the same thing, everything defrosted and the unit was not running. We cleaned it out, and when I plugged it back in the compressor came on and the unit is running fine. We did not have any loss of power at either scenario. Why is my unit shutting down? Is there some type of overload that only resets when unplugging unit?

You have a problem with the ADC. Frigidaire has also jumped into the market with an adaptive defrost board. The fresh food section light switch and light bulb must work. To initiate a defrost cycle, open the door and push the light switch in and out 5 times within 6 seconds. The compressor and fans should shut off and the defrost heater should come on. Open the door and push the light switch in and out 5 times within 6 seconds to remove the refrigerator from the defrost mode and back into a cooling mode. This product comes equipped with an Adaptive Defrost Control (ADC). To activate manual defrost, press and hold the Freezer temperature UP (WARMER) key while pressing the Fresh Food temperature DOWN (COLDER) key 5 times within 6 seconds. A "d" in the freezer temperature window and "F" in the refrigerator temperature window will display when the heater is activated. To deactivate manual defrost, press and hold Freezer temperature UP (WARMER) key while pressing the Fresh Food temperature DOWN (COLDER) key 5 times within 6 seconds. "d" and "F" will be displayed until the defrost cycle is complete. (approx. 8 minutes)

Kenmore freezer quit working after power outage

Simple stuff, you have a compressor a stat and power. check the receptacle to be sure you have 120 volts . then check the compressor with stat at max cold setting to see if you have 120 volts at compressor. if you do then compresssor is bad =new compressor or new unit. if no power to compressor then stat is bad= new stat. i always recomend new unit cause new stat or compressor wont fix a freon leak.... i have replaced a few compressors that died soon after due to a freon leak. good luck...

Frigidaire frost free upright freezer door corner dripping

Hello Yellow, thank you for your post! I understand that your Frigidaire freezer is dripping water out of the corner of the door. It is possible that with your power going out the heat may have caused the gasket to warp. Do you see any frost build-up? The water that is dripping could be coming from condensation within the freezer. I would recommend checking the gasket to see if it is allowing warm air to enter the freezer. I recommend that you visually inspect the door gasket for defects such as gaps or tears. You can also use a dollar bill to test the door gasket. Place a dollar bill in between the door and the body of the freezer. If the dollar bill pulls out with no to little resistance, you may need to replace the door gasket. A faulty door gasket can allow warm air to enter the compartment and cause frost to condensation or a leak. I hope this information is helpful. -Matt
