I had the same problem with mine (same model number). The top shelf started having a pretty serious ice build up and the lower shelves were not as cold as they had been. We defrosted by pulling out a button that did a defrost cycle, but after that it never got as cold again (hovers around 20 F) amd the hiss is not as pronounced when the door closes. Has anyone figured out what this might be? And can someone explain the quick freeze?

That you have to 2 defrost your freezer it's normal depending of many factors. Do you open it often, is it in a warm place, is the food that you are putting in it is warm? many factors contribute of building up frost faster. Francois

Upright Frigidaire Freezer, Model#: MFU14F3GW9 It's approximately a 7-9 year old upright freezer. I believe the door may have been left cracked for an extended period of time, but I'm not positive. Currently, it freezes fine. However, it seems to run almost constantly. Although, I have found it cut itself off once during this questionable period. I can turn it off and on with the thermostat on the inside of the freezer. I've noticed the natural ''suction'' on the door also seems much less than in the past. Although there are no signs within the freezer of frost buildup, I was wondering if I should consider shutting it down for a day to let areas that aren't obvious defrost?? To paraphrase, my freezer is working, but running all the time and I'm concerned that it may be related to an extended period of time that the door may have been left open with a slight crack. Thanks for your reply.

If the doors shut okay, and there is no frost, and it is maintaining a steady internal temp(-18C to -20C) why worry.......anything else is going to cost money.......

Have a subzero set - fridge and freezer. The

First, check the compressor fan. Make sure it is turning. If this fan is not working properly, the refrigerant will be be cooled adequately. This lowers the efficiency of the refrigerator and causes it to run more. The fan is probably located in the back of the bottom of the refrigerator. It pulls air across the coils and blows the heat out the back of the unit. If the fan is not turning, the fan motor will need to be replaced.

My upright freezer Frigidaire model # GLFU2067FW4 was working perfectly fine then one day it was not freezing as well.We have air circulation in the freezer and the fan runs.No frost build up inside .It has been in the same place for 4 years and the unit is clean.Today I found a very small puddle under the unit.I saw the black compressor to the rear and on it looks to be a yellow looking grease coming from the center seam.I am guessing the compressor is failing? Regards Pat B. Chicago

You are absolutely correct. The compressor is leaking its Freon.----------- What is Freon? The Freon is a cooling refrigerant in the compressor. Its like a gas.The unit starts cooling with the refrigerant in the compressor.------- There is a leak in the compressor and that's causing the refrigerant to leak. You will need to get your compressor replaced. In some cases the leak can be sealed by a silicon sealant and required refrigerant can be again charged in compressor.---------- This job has to be done by special licensed tools. The HVAC repair techs have all this tools. They will first detect the leak , if the leak is major get the compressor replaced. But if leak is very minor then the leak has to be sealed by the sealant. The HVAC techs have this sealant with them. After the leak is sealed the pressure in the compressor is checked by the pressure tool.As per the pressure, additional refrigerant will again be added to the compressor and you can use the same compressor.--------- But as per me, if you get compressor replaced, then it will give exact required cooling. ---------- To get new compressor for you Frigidaire upright freezer, please click the link below:--- http://technoanswers.blogspot.com/2011/06/frigidaire-upright-freezer-glfu2067fw4.html ------------ This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Kenmore Upright Freezer 253.21741104 Loss of Power

Yes, it does have a control board. It is located under the rear of the freezer near the compressor. There was a service bulletin out a few years ago about the exact problem you are having. I will not be able to find out if your freezer falls under this design change until tomorrow when I get on my computer at the shop. What is happening is the board has a fault in it that won't allow it to come back on sometimes if the power blinks off and back on. I am not sure if the repair credit is still active but we have changed the control boards on many of these units free of charge as recently as a year ago. I will reply back when I find out for sure.
