Frost freeze-up i have a frost fre freezer model C675-58714-OJ. i keep it in my cold room for space reasons, it seems to be icing up- i would like to take the back off but there is some rubber trim holding the shield in place . just wondering if it is ok to pull this stuff out and then repack it. I think the problem may be moisture and was wondering if i could run a piece of thinnish wire 1/8th maybe from the heating element down the center of the drain hose to keep the water flowing, does this make sense? if you can help with any of this please do thanks

Yes to both questions. You do remove the rubber strips to remove the back cover and yes you can run a wire down the drain from the heater. There actually was a repair kit a few years ago for a different brand of freezer that was exactly that, a piece of aluminium strap that hooked to the heater and stuck into the drain. Make sure the drain is clean also.

Ok we have a kenmore upright freezer Model # 253.26062103. We got it brand new about 3-4 years ago. It was working fine til about 2 weeks ago when the ice cream became soft and high temp alarm started going off..everything else stayed frozen. my husband checked and there was frost build up on the back wall which we decided to take evrything out of the freezer and self defrost it because we thought since the outside temp was unusually high maybe the freezer wasnt able to defrost properly. We did this and plugged it back in a few days later. We put a thermometer inside the freezer and it is only reading 20 degrees F or -5 celcius. Still not cold enough. We then replaced the electronic control panel which also houses the defrost timer and that did not help raise the temp. Alarm still going off when switched is turned on. We then decided to have a repair service out...they said it was the defrost heater, timer and thermostat, we said we already replaced the timer, so we bought the other 2 parts and replaced them. well it is still not cooling properly and we have no idea what to check next...This is costing us a ridiculous amount of money and we can't get a solution...Any help would be appreciated.

I had the same problem and it turned out to be the sensor, a $15 part. it pretty much controls everything related to defrosting.

We have a 20.3 cubic feet Kenmore upright frost free freezer we purchased in May 2003. We noticed the meat was beginning to thaw one afternoon. We hit the quick freeze button and that seemed to fix the problem for awhile. Just opened the freezer and the temperature was close to 32. I listened all day for the motor to kick on but no luck. I turned the dial in the freezer, no motor or fan would come on. I unplugged it and plugged it back in, the motor ran for a very short time. The only way It works is when you push the quick freeze button. What is going on? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

This sounds like a bad thermostadt, since the quick freeze button does work. But it should be much colder than 32 degrees. It may also be the motor, since it runs for brief periods of time after plugging it back in. I'd say best bet here is to call a repairman. (sorry...)

Have upright frost free freezer alarm is going off about once or twice a day.Put a thermometer it is around 20 degrees I mute the al;arm and it beeps again and again after several hours. looked to clean coils and can't find any coils under or in the back Can you help is it a thermostaste, fan, or bad sensor?

Hi most deep freezers operate at 0 dergrees. your model may have 2 temp zones. 0 or 20 deg.I'm gessind that your sensor is going off when the defroster is on to melt ice (defrosting). Lower the setting. monitor and repeat as needed. if it continues you may need to replace the unit or ad freon. If the unit is over 13 years ge a new one.

1999 Frigidaire Refrigerator

Check rear wall of freezer by feel for frost. Heavy, even frost indicates likely problem in the defrost system. Unplug unit. Defrost heater (in freezer behind rear wall panel), defrost thermostat (same area-must be checked at freezer temperature) or Defrost timer-located lower back outside of unit. Near compressor. Do continuity test on heater and defrost thermostat and if they show continuity (good), replace defrost timer. If not, replace the one that tests bad.Defrost coils fully. Reassemble. Please let me know if I have helped with comments and rating.Refrigerator will work about 7-10 days after being defrosted until thick frost builds up again cutting off air flow to both compartments

Upright freezer My upright freezer which is frostfree...needs to be defrosted very often. The grates in the freezer in the back keep frosting up. Help

Maytag's design flaw is a too small drain pipe for melted frost. The pipe keeps clogging up (partially melted frost can cause this) and the overflow water accumulates in the bottom of the freezer and then re-freezes.
