Guide :Freezers : 16.7 cu. ft. / 473 liter Upright Freezer DUF1700W

Noise Problem We purchased the above-mentioned Danby Upright Freezer about 3 years ago and are very satisfied with it. However, for the past week or so, it has become very noisy. When we open the freezer door the noise is quite loud and when the door is closed it is still noisy most of the time but nowhere as noisy as when we open the door. What could be the reason for this noise? Is there anything we should or should not be doing? Hope to hear from you soon. Thank you in advance, Ab

I have 16.7 upright Frigidaire Ultrafreeze freezer, Model AFFU1766DW3 & SERIAL #WB51720061, manufactured 04/05 that I purchased new 11/05. Water was on the floor next the the freezer but the light on the inside of the freezer and the exterior yellow power light under the door remained on. I am pretty sure the freezer door was tightly shut when I opened the door. The food seemed still frozen- I shut the door quickly. Frozen water was also on the inside bottom of the freezer. I did not hear any freezer running sound initially. I flipped all my circuit breakers-- though none appeared to be in the off position. Freezer running sound eventually started. What caused the water to be on the floor outside the freezer & on the inside of the bottom of the freezer?? What should I do to prevent this from happening again? Thanks, Anne from Seattle

Your evaporator coils frost up in normal use and every eight hours or so the entire unit shuts down and the defrost heater comes on to melt the frost. This cycle last about 20 minutes. The melted frost drips into a drain pan and through a drain tube to the drain tray under the freezer/refrigerator where it's evaporated by the condenser fan. Your drain tube may be stopped up with ice at the upper end because it drains too slow because it's stopped up at the lower end in the evaporator pan under the unit at the floor. It can get dust and mold in it. Once you get the ice out at the top a little pressure with a turkey baster will usually clear it out. Flushing it out with hot water and clorox may help. Make sure it drains quick enough to prevent refreezing. . The drain should be located below the evaporator coils on the lower back of the freezer.

Frigidiare upright freezer has just stopped cooling

I was hoping it would be something like a cracked door seal, or a faulty thermostat, etc., but after reading the rest of your info, I've concluded the likely cause is a slow leak in the refridgerant line(s). I've seen many of these fairly new upright freezers with this problem. Finding the leak is easy for a service tech to find, but the cost of the service tech isn't cheap and unfortunately, the repair cost will probably exceed the cost of a new freezer, but you can try to call a repair tech and see if they can give you a rough estimate over the phone or if they think it's worth fixing, etc. My advice is to replace it. The cost of food you've lost has probably exceeded the price of a new freezer - and you've had this happen twice now. These days it seems that some appliances are being designed and built as "throw aways" due to the high repair cost. Wished I had some better news for you, but unless you've got all the specialty tools; (charging gauges, vaccum pump, Freon, etc.) needed to do the repair yourself, along with the technical knowledge, it's likely not worth having the repair service contracted. Best Regards.
