GE used refrigerator....

I would try defrosting first. If no difference, or worse then you may have a refrigerant leak. You could always try setting back to the original setting. Hope this helps.

Kenmore 5.1 cu.ft. chest freezer with manual defrost (model # 255.19502) is not meeting my expectations. It was replaced by Sears after its previous model, 19502/19702 crashed while still under warranty. This model appears to be even more poorly made than the previous model. After my husband died and I had fewer family events to prepare, I downsized to a small chest freezer. They are hard to find! Consumers must not be using them much? Today I defrosted this model for the first time. The hard part was not finding the plug, but the hole where water drains out the exterior. It was taking forever, and I had a small test tube brush to clean out any debris caught in the hole. It was not clear to me where the drainage hole is supposed to be? Since I never received a manual of instructions, even online, I finally turned the whole unit over so I could inspect underneath. I won't describe my opinion of the way it is put together. I finally turned it right side up and used a few towels to absorb the rest of the water. Trying to drain the water into a shallow pan only produced a few tablespoons and it was not clear to me where it was coming from, but it had to be where the hole for the plug is? However, when I had it upside down, there was silver tape over the bottom where the drainage hole might have been but I did not want to incur damage by removing the tape. Thank you for clarifying for my next defrost.

Mae sure you leave the freezer upright for 24hours before you operate as the oil from the compressor drains out and you will ruin your freezer.

Switch on and leave it to freeze.approx 24hours.buzzing could be compressor working overtime to get cold.or in fact the freezer is not on a level surface.

I bought a used Haier HCM070LA chest freezer (manual defrost). I bought it cheap knowing it doesn't work. I'm hoping I can fix it. When I plug it in it sounds like everything turns on and it runs for about 15-30 seconds before I hear a click and it turns off. When I unplug it and wait about another 5 minutes i hear another click and I can plug it back in and have it turn on for a few seconds. This sounds electrical, but how can I know for sure?

Hi,First, i will advice you check if the compressor and fan works when you plug the freezer, from your explanation, the click sound seems to me it could be a faulty compressor. Before testing the compressor motor, unplug the freezer to avoid an electrical shock hazard. Also, if the compressor uses a capacitor, it may contain a lethal electrical charge. Do not touch the terminals until you have discharged the capacitor. The problem could also be a relay problem,. The function of the start relay is to momentarily energize the start winding in the compressor motor and then cut power to the start winding as soon as the motor is running. Most of the start relays on modern compressors are solid state and use a special material whose resistance increases with temperature. So, as current flows through the relay and the relay heats up, its resistance increases to the point that the start winding is isolated from the rest of the circuit. A common failure of these relays is that the solid state material "cooks" and breaks up, staying open and thus never allowing the start winding in the compressor motor to energize. The end result is that the compressor tries to start, usually you'll hear a humming noise, and then, after a few seconds, the compressor's overload protector takes the compressor offline with a loud CLICK. Easy way to tell if the start relay is bad is by simply removing it from the compressor's control pod and shaking it. If you hear any rattling, it's fried.

Refrigerator is not cooling

Good day, You will need an ohm meter to check the parts. Your defrost system has failed. It is made up of 3 components, 2 of which are located behind the rear panel in the freezer compartment. Remove the rear panel. There is a cooling coil, that has a calrod heating element that runs along it's bottom. As well there is a defrost thermostat ( a small round 1" disk) which is located on the top of the same coil. Both should be checked with an ohm meter to test for continuity. The heater should read no more than 30 ohms, the thermostat ( IT MUST STILL BE COLD BELOW 30 DEGREES) should read zero ohms. Note: The heater rarely fails, the thermostat has a high failure rate. The third item is a timer, or a solid state adaptive defrost control. Depending on age, and model, it is located , behind the kick plate on the bottom front. Or, in the fresh food compartment on the roof. If it is a timer, you can turn the timer shaft when the machine is running until the machine shuts off. With it still turned on, wait 40 minutes. If the machine turns itself back on, the timer is O.K. if not, the timer is bad, and needs replaced. If the Main heater checks O.K. and it has a solid state control, then replace the thermostat in the freezer compartment, and the solid state board. Below is an excellant tutorial on defrost systems. http://www.appliance411.com/faq/howdefrostworks.shtml Thank you for using FixYa

Kenmore freezer leaking green

It's not refrigerant. Refrigerant would have evaporated straight away. What did you have in the freezer when it went off? It may be refrigerant oil, in which case mop it up with paper tissue and clean the area with detergent. It's no more toxic than any other oil. It's most likely to be excess ice/frosting leeching from inside the cabinet. Again, mop up with tissue paper.

Ambient temperature I just picked up used 2006 15 cu.ft Woods chest freezer with only 1 year of operation and we'd like to put it in the garage, which ranges from -20 degrees celsius to about 35 in the summer. The Frigidaire freezer manuals say cold temperatures won't affect the freezer operation - is this true?

This is true of all HVAC type systems. The condensor releases heat from the expansion of the coolant. As long as the temperature is lower than the exchanged heat then there is no impact to efficiency.
