Used chest freezer not cooling

Slobberlips, One of two situations has occured with your used freezer: 1: The unit freon needs to be recharged, this happens when you develope a leak in the freon coils, or the unit is old enough that the freon has reached it's usable potential. 2: The compressor may seem to run fine, but in fact, has an internal problem. My suggestion, return the unit if you can, and walk the isles of your local Menards, Sears, or any other local vendor in your area, and see how much prices have declined for the chest freezer. The initial investment for a new freezer will offset any problems you might have with any other used unit, and the warranty is always a plus if you do have problems with the new unit. Hope this helps you out.

I have a kenmore upright frost free freezer mod #253.26432100. A couple of months ago everything defrosted and the unit was not running at all. I unplugged it cleaned it and plugged it back in, it turned on and seemed ok. We have been using it since. Last night it did the same thing, everything defrosted and the unit was not running. We cleaned it out, and when I plugged it back in the compressor came on and the unit is running fine. We did not have any loss of power at either scenario. Why is my unit shutting down? Is there some type of overload that only resets when unplugging unit?

You have a problem with the ADC. Frigidaire has also jumped into the market with an adaptive defrost board. The fresh food section light switch and light bulb must work. To initiate a defrost cycle, open the door and push the light switch in and out 5 times within 6 seconds. The compressor and fans should shut off and the defrost heater should come on. Open the door and push the light switch in and out 5 times within 6 seconds to remove the refrigerator from the defrost mode and back into a cooling mode. This product comes equipped with an Adaptive Defrost Control (ADC). To activate manual defrost, press and hold the Freezer temperature UP (WARMER) key while pressing the Fresh Food temperature DOWN (COLDER) key 5 times within 6 seconds. A "d" in the freezer temperature window and "F" in the refrigerator temperature window will display when the heater is activated. To deactivate manual defrost, press and hold Freezer temperature UP (WARMER) key while pressing the Fresh Food temperature DOWN (COLDER) key 5 times within 6 seconds. "d" and "F" will be displayed until the defrost cycle is complete. (approx. 8 minutes)

I would think that the reason the red power wire melted, was because of high amperage, not getting wet. After you replaced it the condenser fan came on, but did the compressor? It may have went out before and that's what caused the bad wire. If you have a volt/ohm meter I can help you check it out.

We purchased an 8.8cu.ft. Kenmore chest freezer model # 970-159320. I plugged it in at 10:00 am today and later transferred food from old freezer. When I go home at 10:00 pm this evening, the compressor was not running and the temperature in the freezer was -10C. So I increased the setting to 5 but nothing happened. By turning up the dial to 5 should the compressor not have started? 15 minutes later when I checked the freezer the compressor was running. At what setting will the freezer cool down to 0 F?

Hi, As the weather is getting warmer for many people their freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many other things that can go wrong. If you are hearing a clicking or buzzing then check out the last two tips. If your refrigerator is running but warm, then… Check out this tip that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...Refrigerator Condenser Coil Cleaning Refrigerator Repairhttp://www.fixya.com/support/r4024657-refrigerator_condenser_coil_cleaningRefrigerator Troubleshooting Refrigerator Compressorhttp://www.fixya.com/support/r3885294-refrigerator_troubleshootingRefrigerator Compressor Start Capacitor and Start Relayhttp://www.fixya.com/support/r4023749-refrigerator_compressor_start_capacitorheatman101

Kenmore 5.1 cu.ft. chest freezer with manual defrost (model # 255.19502) is not meeting my expectations. It was replaced by Sears after its previous model, 19502/19702 crashed while still under warranty. This model appears to be even more poorly made than the previous model. After my husband died and I had fewer family events to prepare, I downsized to a small chest freezer. They are hard to find! Consumers must not be using them much? Today I defrosted this model for the first time. The hard part was not finding the plug, but the hole where water drains out the exterior. It was taking forever, and I had a small test tube brush to clean out any debris caught in the hole. It was not clear to me where the drainage hole is supposed to be? Since I never received a manual of instructions, even online, I finally turned the whole unit over so I could inspect underneath. I won't describe my opinion of the way it is put together. I finally turned it right side up and used a few towels to absorb the rest of the water. Trying to drain the water into a shallow pan only produced a few tablespoons and it was not clear to me where it was coming from, but it had to be where the hole for the plug is? However, when I had it upside down, there was silver tape over the bottom where the drainage hole might have been but I did not want to incur damage by removing the tape. Thank you for clarifying for my next defrost.

Mae sure you leave the freezer upright for 24hours before you operate as the oil from the compressor drains out and you will ruin your freezer.

15 cubic foot chest freezer, new, plugged it in, loaded it with frozen food, has not stop running for a week, was told this new freezer will run 80 to90% percent of the time, is this true. our old freezer is 27 years old the compressor would turn on and off after a certain time

I wouldn't think this is right. If that is the case, it is not holding the temperature well then.
