Compressor runs, but not hot to touch

Temperature alarm went off on our 1998 Kenmore model 2539280412. I pulled the panel over the evaporator and found a small amount of ice on the tubes leading to the evaporator coil and ice was plugging the drain hole. The compressor was warm, but not hot, to the touch after a minute or more of run-time. Is it time to replace the fridge? I can't think of anything that would cause the compressor to not run hot. Thanks!

I have a Kenmore 16 cu ft upright freezer that runs constantly( Model 2539206281). It has a manufacture date of 1991. It has been in storage most of its life. I know the door seal needs replaced but I wanted to see if it still worked before I invested a lot of money in it. For now I use a piece of duct tape to keep the door sealed. I adjust the thermostat and it does change the inside temperature. I have tried this over several days. Making it cooler or warmer works by adjusting the thermostat. The highest setting will pull the inside temperature down to -10. However when I adjust the thermostat the other way it doesn't shut off until it reaches off. The sides and top are hot to the touch. Is it a problem with the thermostat or something else?

Replace the dor seal

I have a Kenmore upright freezer-model LFFH2067DW2 -the red light has been on for at least 12 hours and the freezer is defrosting-water is leaking on the floor-there is a vent insidethe freezer and the metal above it is hot-I assume this is part of the defrost feture. The manual does not tell if this is normal or how long it takes to defrost the freezer or how to stop water from running on the floor--the freezer is blowing cold air at times--how do I stop the water on the floor and is this normal defrost?

Hi,I was made aware of your concern and would like to offer a few ideas you may want to consider. Water dripping down is not a leak during defrost condition as this would be the ice melting. Normally, there would be a drain hose specifically to channel the melted ice/water to a drainage system. The amount of water would then be proportional to the amount of ice melting as with the length of time to completely melt, drain away.Perhaps you could check the filter/drain screen as well as the drain opening for any blockage/clogging. You could also try checking the same on the drain hose as well as for possible kinks. Additionally, there would be a sensor behind a boxy cover that triggers the system back into operation. If there is still melted ice/water inside the freezer, then the sensor would prevent the unit from turning on completely. You may want to check this sensor and verify that it is dry.An exploded parts diagram would help you identify/locate the above mentioned parts.Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

The sides of my freezer are very hot while the top, front and back are cool to the touch. The freezer still is freezing items fine.

In the newer freezers and refrigerators they are mounting the condenser coil in the side panels of the freezer or refrigerator eliminating the large usually black frame work of tubing that used to be mounted on the back. This saves room but causes the sides to be warm as the heat is now dissipated by the side panels. You should have about an inch of clearance on both sides to let air flow over the side panels to cool them. I have a newer side by side and it also is feels quite warm when you put your hand on the side.

I have a Frigidaire upright freezer model# ffu20f9gw3. The temperature alarm light is on. Cold air is blowing but the ice cream melted, and the hot dogs are still frozen and loaves of bread that i normally put in my refrigerator freezer and comes out pretty solid is still alittle soft but cold in the upright freezer. The light has been on for a couple of days now, this model is a frost free upright. Thank you in advance for any help!

I have had the same problem with my frigidaire/electrolux upright freezer... I am researching to see if there is a pattern. Once or twice a year for the past few years, the freezer defrosted itself. I found the outside of the unit to be VERY hot to the touch around the time that this occurred. We typically unplug it for a chunk of time when this happens and then replug it. It has always begun working again. Sadly, we have lost many groceries and have had to clean many bloody meat messes as a result of this. ANYONE buying this freezer should save their receipt... That way, they can return it or have it repaired when it fails. I hate to think of sending all of these failing monstrosities to the landfill... =(

Kenmore upright older freezer coils frost up

The tech was telling you to put it in defrost and if ater the time you didn't hear the click the defrost timer is defective but like you are describing the defrost thermostat (bimetal) could be bad. here's a simple test (if your handy with a screwdriver) just dissasemble the panel and you will see the coil and defrost heater. if your handy with a voltmeter (please disconnect power first!) locate the two wires to the defrost element put the meter in "audible" mode and check for continuity on the defrost heater if you hear a beep it's good if it dosen't beep it's bad just replace heater w/ bimetal and your ready 2 go! email me @ [email protected]ail if you have any questions
