Rust On Bottom Of Chest Freezer

I bought a second hand small chest freezer and the bottom is rusting. How can I prevent this or do I need to replace the metal pan liner it sits on? Could the rust eventually eat to the inside of the freezer?

Kelvinator Chest Freezer will not cool after spray painting rust spot.

Dear Landport2Welcome to the site,You said, you have a Kelvinator chest freezer, model number CFS101SM1W. This freezer is in excellent condition and was working ok. I notice that there was a rust spot on the bottom area so I decided to spray paint the entire inside with the appropriate appliance spray paint. After spray painting the freezer will not cool. How old was your freezer? This must be an ancient freezer! And Unfortunately I was not able to tell you to leave it alone and not to turn it off!You did not cause this!Unfortunately it was so old that it probably was already on it's last legs. Here is an interesting report I just read!Repair or replace your appliances? When to pull the plug on your old freezer It nearly always makes sense to undertake simple do-it-yourself repairs, such as replacing a gasket on a refrigerator or a freezer. Typically, you'll also find a troubleshooting section for more-serious problemsin the owner's manual. Should you pay for a repair or buy a new model ?The answer depends mostly on the age of your ,freezerhow much you bought it for,and the cost of the repair. Follow these guidelines: When a repair makes sense. If your refrigerator is under warranty or less than four years old freezers),paying for a repair makes sense.Note that freezer under warranty might require service from a factory-authorized technician;readers have found them on a par with independent repairers. When a repair might be a wise choice. If your freezer is out of warranty and is four to seven years old,it might make sense to pay for a repair. Customers generally pay $100 to $200 for a repair. But you might want to buy a new model even at this stage, given that today's models are quieter and have added features.Higher energy efficiency is another plus: Energy Star-qualified models made after April 28, 2008,are 43 percent more efficient than conventional models built before 2001 and 56 percentmore efficient than those built before 1993. When it pays to replace. The repair costs more than half the price of a comparable new freezer.Data also shows that it doesn't pay to fix a less-expensive freezer six or more years old . Thanks to better recycling programs, less than 10 percentof a freezer you replace is likely to end up in a landfill. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to help! Please do not for get to give a rating before you sign off!Thank You, HUUUM

Can I Mount Casters with Screws into Bottom of Chest Freezer?

Youyr best bet would be to build a frame that the casters are welded to and there are no holes in the outer shell of the freezer. some L shaped angle would work nicely for this application and then there would be plenty of support for when the freezer is loaded up with product. Be sure that teo of the casters are lockable and two in the swivel freely.

We were given a fairly new chest freezer (a smaller-med size) however it has some rust damage on the corners and expecially on the bottom. Can I paint over this? What should I use? Thanks!

Go to the hardware store and get some rust removing jelly. Sand the area with emery cloth and then prime the area and paint it with an appliance spray paint that matches your color

I have a small (I'm guessing about 5 cu ft) Kenmore chest freezer with a bottom drawer. It's about 6 years old. The bottom drawer section is freezing up and is difficult to open with all the ice/frost. I don't have the owners manual. Is there a way to defrost the bottom drawer section only without turning off the entire freezer?

I would use a hairdryer to defrost the door secton with the other part closed off or covered.

Chest freezer not freezing on bottom

Sounds like a circulation problem. Does it have a fan inside the freezer. Should be bdhind the floor or one of the wall panels. There should be a vent for the air to circulat through. If so check to make sure it's running when the compressor runs.

Temperature swing specification in a chest freezer.

It depends on the control that your freezer utilizes. If your temp control dial has the numbers 0-9 or 1-9, then you have whats commonly known as a coil temp sensor.Unlike an air temp contol that measure the air temp inside the freezer and comes on and off with a 3-5° swing, the coil temp sensor runs a little bit different. With a coil temp control or sensor, the temp control has a capillary tube and bulb that is inserted into the coil either at on of the ends down a guidetube or just into the center of the radiator type fins. This temp control measures the temperature of the coil, and not the temperature of the air inside the freezer. When the unit runs, the coils typically gets 20° colder than the air temp. And when the control satisfies (shuts off), it will not call for cooling again until the sensing bulb has reached the cut-in point which is typically well above design box temp. So, to quickly answer your question, yes it is possible to have a 25° temp swing and not have anything really wrong with the unit. That is how its been designed to operate and that is how it will operate. Your only option (although not recommended) is to replace the coil temp sensor with and air temp control. That will give you more consistent temps. Also, when taking temp of a freezer with a coil temp sensor, be sure to temp the product in the freezer and not the air temperature.

Our Kenmore chest freezer Model 253.16342102 will not freeze the food inside it anymore. The blue defrost indicator is not covered with ice. In fact the freezer is empty now since all the food was thawing out. The freezer will power on but will not freeze the food inside = pump operates & power light illuminates. I have unplugged the freezer from the power receptacle for 5 hours and then plugged it back in, but this did not resolve this issue either. I have removed the service panel from the Left Hand Bottom side of the freezer and can not find anything wrong. The black canister / pump in this area makes a rattling sound, but that is it. The freezer will power on and off when the power/temperature control knob is rotated from the on to off position This freezer has worked great this past year then overnight it stopped freezing the food inside. We purchased this freezer new from Sears on August 28th, 2008 and just our luck it is just past the 1 year warranty period. What is wr
