Hotpoint delivered an expensive Stainless Steel fridge freezer on Feb 1st and damaged my kitchen flooring in several places, which prior to this was in pristine condition. Also the appliance was found to be badly damaged on both doors when unpacked.Hotpoint suggested replacing doors and a week later they sent someone who also saw the state of the damaged flooring and he immediately ordered a replacement appliance for delivery the following week. During this replacement delivery they further damaged my flooring and had to tear a large amount of the worst damaged area to allow the appliance to be stable as it has made a piled mess underneath it! They also grazed the side of the 2nd appliance which now shows as white, which I decided not to complain about with the stress of everything else. Indesit complaints department asked for 2 estimates for replacement, and a receipt for flooring which I no longer have. I phoned and explained that, also pointing out that torn and damaged vinyl flooring cannot be repaired, and was told that would be fine and of course they wouldn't expect the flooring to be repaired. I sent the estimates with a covering letter giving all the relevant information and explaining that I had been unable to find anything like the flooring I have in colour and design which was disappointing, although the one I have settled with is cheaper than mine I was happy to order that and get it settled. They have sent the estimates back to me asking for a letter from each company stating that the flooring cannot be repaired, and the replacement is of equivalent value, also asking for a receipt for the flooring or I need to give the age of the flooring so that they can determine the amount they can pay TOWARDS the cost of supplying & fitting it! I live alone, have no animals and so the flooring bought to match my new kitchen which cost me £300 was in pristine condition,(I offered to send photos including the damaged half and the perfect half and they declined my offer twice)I had no intentions of buying new flooring, I don't need it, and with the high price I paid for the appliance they delivered to me I certainly couldn't afford it if I did! Now it would seem that I will have to pay something towards this and I feel this is totally wrong. It has taken me time to get my kitchen just right, this appliance was to be my last large purchase to bring it all together. I am naturally devastated. Can they make me pay some of the costs?

Ok, since you have no proof the company does not need to pay for the floor damage. Suggestion: Buy the new flooring out of your own pocket. And if you really want to try and get money for the repairs from the people who moved the appliance in, take them to civil claims court (United States)

Small patch of ice if frost free freezer

Frost free does not mean no frost ever anywhere. It just means that there is a mechanism to defrost the evaporator on a regular basis. If there is a spot where frost is forming in the box it may just mean that a little bit of moisture that is not collected on the coil may be finding another cold spot to stick. The area where the fan blows into the cabinet is bound to be the coldest spot in the freezer therefore an ideal place to collect frost. Check the level of the unit and your door gasket to be sure the door is closing tight and true.

Freezer Thawing Out

This will not cause a freon leak and it is possible that the door was left open, but to be certain that you don't have a defrost issue, follow the guide below to diagnose any problems. Also the warm walls are normal during compressor run times. Below is a link that will help you with parts and diagnostic procedures that are specifically tuned to your manufacturers data plate information. http://www.repairclinic.com/0047_3.asp If your freezer cools but doesn't get cold enough, it may have a problem in one of several areas. To better understand the proper operation of a freezer, read about freezers in the How Things Work section of our website. In a self-defrosting freezer, poor cooling often results from a heavy frost build-up on the evaporator coils. You can't see these coils without removing a panel inside your freezer. But if you see any frost or ice build-up on the inside walls, ceiling, or floor of your freezer, it's a sure sign of frost build-up. And that's a sign of a problem with the self-defrosting system.Freezers should self-defrost three to four times in 24 hours. But if a component in the self-defrosting system fails, the freezer continues to try to cool, instead. Eventually, so much frost builds up on the evaporator coils that the circulating fan can't draw air over the coils. There's still some cooling because the coils are frozen. But with no air flow over the coils, the cooling is quite limited and the freezer isn't as cold as it needs to be. An easy (though often inconvenient) test of whether the problem is with the self-defrosting system is to remove all of the perishable food from the freezer, turn the thermostat to Off, and leave the door open for 24 to 48 hours. (Keep several towels handy in case the melting frost and ice overflows the drip pan). This "manually" defrosts the freezer. When the frost and ice build-up has completely melted away, turn the thermostat back to a normal setting. If the freezer then cools properly, it indicates a problem with one of these components in the self-defrosting system: The defrost timer. To test this, manually advance to the defrost cycle. The unit should advance itself out of the defrost cycle in about 45 minutes. The defrost thermostat (or bi-metal switch). This thermostat allows current to pass through it at temperatures of 20 to 30 degrees Fahrenheit and prevents current from passing through it at 40 to 60 degrees (depending on its design). This is difficult to test, though, because it takes a prolonged, very-cold temperature to turn it on. The defrost heater. You can test this for continuity using an electrical meter. I have a Turbo Air commercial freezer that I replaced the rubber gasket on the door. However, when I close the door it's not sealing properly...cold air is coming out and it feels like there's no suction keeping the door closed. I called the company and they told me to put the gasket in hot water for 20 min then put it back on the door. It helped a little.

When the temp gets back down to running temp the vacuum will return if the gaskets are properly installed.

Door seal When you closed the door it used to make a swooshing sound like it was sucking out the air. The door got stuck open today and now when I close it I don't hear it seal. Is something broke? Please help. Thanks Rich

If the door was left open you may have frozen the evaporator (on a frost free). I would suggest defrosting it as soon as possible and make sure the door doesnt get left open again. If it is not frost free it may just be that it is still trying to recover the temp it had lost by an open door. Hope this helps.

Freezer door not sealing well

Hi That could be one of two things, one the door is not aligned properly and more important the gasket has failed and needs replacement. The snow as you call it is ice condensed from the atmospheric air that is getting by the gasket. You may want to check the door gasket and sealing surfaces especially in the area of the "snow". The frost build up is the result of moisture sublimating out of the materials stored in the freezer. Sublimation, when it get bad appears as freezer burn on meat while bread etc. will dry out.Check the fan; it is probably blocked or operating below CFM rating. Over filling a freezer with product will also cause this problem, you need air to circulate around the items in the freezer for it to operate properly. If this checks then check the door gasket, it should hold a thin sheet of paper without any problem, if the paper falls out you probably should replace the door gasket. Let us know if you want something more else accept the solution. Thanks for contacting fixya.com

Kenmore freezer The upright freezer door will not seal. The gasket apears in tack but even when you push it closed it will not stay closed. The freezer does not make that vacuum like sound when you close the door. Do we just need a new gasket or is there some other problem. There is no ice buildup or anything obstucting the seal. The motor and freezing action are working OK.

There is a horrible foul smelling fish like odor coming from the freezer. It has been cleaned inside and out and we found a dead mouse under the freezer but removed it and then cleaned again. There has been no food in freezer for 7 days - just pans of baking soda that are replaced daily and the foul smell comes from the cold air vented into the freezer. There is also a weird sound when the door is closed - like a "goopy-glopping" kind of sound - like something is clogged. Freezer is 16 yrs old and have never had this problem before. Freezer is in a garage.

This is just an idea. the sounds may just be age.. some systems are louder than others and some that are noisy become quiet. But the smell concerns me. It may be that there is something in the cooling fins that is producing the smell. The air from the outside does not directly go into the freezer so I don't think the mouse is the issue. Problems like this usually end up coming from the insulation inside the walls of the freezer. But since you have no history of the freezer loosing power and fish going bad I can suggest anything...If you have any easy access to the inside of the freezer try and take a look. One way to possible clean the smell is to put a bunch of charcoal briquettes on some cookie sheets and put those inside the freezer for a day or two. then switch them out... also you can put a pan of armor hammer backing powder down inside and change that every other day. good luck
