Guide :Freezers : Freezer Portable Freezer & Warmer

Warm freezer I have a Kitchenaid Superba refrigerator that is running but the freezer is not as cold as it should be. There is also water leaking out of it, I think it might just be from frost inside the doors or around the pipes. I'm letting the freezer defrost right now even though it's a self-defrosting freezer and I do not see any frost build-up. Could there be frost inside behind the panels?. I tried to clean as much of the coils as I could but they are hard to reach being they are on the bottom of the fridge. Any help you can offer me will be greatly appreciated.

Seems to me that the freezer control motor is not pushing the freezing gas around cooling the unit. Suggest an engineer. Thanks J

Where is the evaporator fan motor? My Freezer and fridge would quit cooling/freezing. I took the back panel off in the freezer a week ago and the evaporator coils were completely frozen over with ice. I unplugged it and let it defrost and it worked great for a week. Then frost would build in the back of the freezer. Then freezer and fridge not cooling again. The coils were not frozen in the freezer like before. Looked normal with normal amts of frost on all coils. The condensor seems to running normally no clicking sound. The fan down there is running fine and coils are clean. In the past I noticed a noise from a fan inside the fridge somewhere when it came on it made a rattle sound. Since my refrigerator does not have a defrost timer I am thinking it is the evaporator fan motor. I just don't know where that is to replace it.

I do not believe the problem is the fan. sounds like the frig. is low on Freon this is what will cause the ice build up. you need to find the leak, you can do this by spraying soapy water on coil tubes & watch for bubbles. repair leak & recharge.

Kenmore upright older freezer coils frost up

The tech was telling you to put it in defrost and if ater the time you didn't hear the click the defrost timer is defective but like you are describing the defrost thermostat (bimetal) could be bad. here's a simple test (if your handy with a screwdriver) just dissasemble the panel and you will see the coil and defrost heater. if your handy with a voltmeter (please disconnect power first!) locate the two wires to the defrost element put the meter in "audible" mode and check for continuity on the defrost heater if you hear a beep it's good if it dosen't beep it's bad just replace heater w/ bimetal and your ready 2 go! email me @ [email protected] if you have any questions

Upright self def. freezer not getting cold

Is your compressor running? Try this: place your hand on top the compressor, quickly-in case it's hot-it should be vibrating and cool/warm to the touch. If it's not running then the cheapest/fastest test is to try a 3in1 start kit from a local appliance shop. The 3 in 1 start should be around $14 to $20 to wire up. It's extremely simple to wire up, just ask the clerk at the appliance shop's parts counter and they will explain it. I hope this helps you out!!! :)

Kenmore Model # 2539284214 Serial# WB05106301 Found freezer thawing out Compressor was hot and cycling on the Compressor O/L in cycle about 7 times and then started to run Temp inside went to 4.8 Degrees then shut off and came back on at 15.8 degrees It ran like this from 9:30 PM until 5:30 the next day. when i checked it at 5:30 PM it was in the defrost cycle which is suppose to happen after 12 hr.of compressor run time. when it completed the defrost cycle it would start it was cycling on the compressor O/L for about 10 times then it finally started. the amperage on start up was 15.5 then it went to run at 4.5 amps for about 5sec. then tripped out. The cycle time when it was running off the t-stat was approx.30 -40 min. The t-stat is set on #1 and the blower is running Compressor was to hot to touch. My question is the compressor going bad or could it be the door gasket and it is running to long over heating the compressor once it stays running the amperage is 1.5 amps Could it be low on refrigant all the coils are inside. shows no signs of icing up

When its running how hot are the sides the starting amps are too high and 1.5 running amps ain't bad now the the cut in cut out are too high if you look on the dial that the mid point settings that's where you should have it not on 1 1 is hot set it on the straight line that's where you should do all your testing colder settings go up not down you could be overheating the compressor by making it come on too quick the freezer should be about -10 or so do you see any gaps in the gasket

We have a Amana BR18 Easy Reach bottom freezer. The fridge is turned up all the way, barely keeping food cold. The freezer is not freezing anything (ice, etc.). The freezer is still blowing cool air, but obviously not cold enough, there is no sign of frost or ice build up even behind the rear freezer panel. What could be causing our issue? I also cleaned off the coils underneath the freezer, the best I could with a vaccum. The fridge is only a couple of years old.

Low refrigerant assuming the compressor is always running and not being shut down by the thermostat. You can hook up an ammeter to the unit to see if the current consumption is below spec, another sign of low gas situation since the motor is not working as hard as under normal conditions.

Kenmore Freezer 20.3 cu.ft. won't kick on

Poor mom..:) You need a technician for that problem. But much better if you buy new one because your unit is already 14 yrs old the labor and parts are expensive. For this problem I think the compressor is already burned or stuck up.

I HAVE AN UPRIGHT FREEZER THAT IS DEVELOPING FROST ON ALL THE SHELVES, I DEFROSTED IT TODAY AND RIGHT AWAY THE SHELVES DEVELOPED FROST AGAIN. THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE, IT WOULD GET FROST ON THE SHELVES THAT HAD THE COILS BUT NOT THE OTHER SHELVES, IS THIS A COMPRESSOR PROBLEM OR WHAT COULD IT BE, IT IS FULL AND I DON'T WANT IT TO GO OUT AND LOSE ALL MY GOODYS, THANKS

Sounds like an air leak. Check the door gasket. If that is sealing well all the way around, try putting a peice of foil duct tape over the two small vents in the bottom of the door.
