Freezer ok, fridge not cold

Often you can unplug it overnight and it'll melt out, correcting the problem for some time.  The electric element might be burned out, although I'd suspect the defrost timer.  It's usually located behind the unit, near the bottom.  Often all you will see is a 3/4" hole in the back plate with a flat screwdriver slot.  Turn it (only turns one direction) with a flat screwdriver, and all will work fine for some time (usually).  If not, standard procedure is to replace the defrost timer assembly, as the clock motor has likely gummed up.  Maybe available at http://www.repairclinic.com, or a local appliance repair shop.  They're often generic, as in not specialty oem specific.

Water Dripping Inside

Sounds like a blocked defrost drain. By "American" I presume you mean side-by-side. I had a similar problem with a freezer-on-top style Samsung. The solution to that was to defrost the freezer, remove the false backing plate in the freezer (required removal of the ice cube tray. the panel just pops out with a bit of pulling). The drain hole beneath the freezer coils was blocked with ice. This drain passes down into the fridge and then out the back of the fridge into the evaporation pan next to the motor. There is a collector pan under the freezer coils, this and the drain hole were filled with ice. When the freezer goes into its self-defrost cycle the water collects here and then overflows into the fridge. I removed the ice with hot water/vinegar mixture (so it doesn't re-freeze immediately) and simultaneosuly used a bit of chiselling with a screwdriver to clear the drain plug. I did this from inside the fridge working up the drain hole into the freezer. The whole job took about an hour.

The fridge has an electrical fault in it.You may need to take the fridge back and have it repaired or you can just lower the temperature more if possible. It sounds like the Temperature Gauge is dieing out on the fridge.

My chest style freezer will not cool. This unit operated without issue for several years. We moved to a new house and did not want/need to use the unit for a year or so. When I plug it in I can hear a subtle noise from the compressor, but the freezer does not cool. There appears to be very few accessible components to troubleshoot. One of the electricians at work suspects that there is a switch stuck. Please advise. Thank you, Ian

Its the ptc overload relay on the side of the compressor body,it aids in starting the compressor by momentarily putting your start and run windings in parallel to overcome" locked rotor current",then drops out start windings after unit has come up to operating speed,it also protects the windings if the compressor cant start, they simply unplug off the compressor and the replacement plugs in the same, replace the capacitor connected to this if applicable as this protects the ptc's overload relay contacts

Fridge freezer my fridgefreezer is auto defrost but the last couple of weeks the freezer has been getting ice in it. I have tried manually defrosting the freezer but it still keeps freezing over can you help please Mrs A Hegarty

Defrost timers usually cause this type of frost build up. However it can also be caused by the defrost heater and/or heater thermostat, and these items are behind the panels therefore not easy to get to. Also before you attempt to take the panels apart make sure the refrigerator is unplugged.

A year ago I was given a very large White Westinghouse Fridge-Freezer of unknown age. I can't see the model number as some of the information on the back has been damaged. It's an American-style product, with two tall compartments side by side rather than on top of one another. The freezer section has an ice maker and cold water dispenser... anyway the machine worked well for months, but now although the machine appears to be still running - lights, compressor etc, it's stopped getting really cold. The freezer side is just above freezing (Ice doesn't stay ice but it feels cold) and the fridge side is only just below ambient temp. The only thing I can see wrong is that at the back is a narrow plastic tube coming out of a joint near the top of the fridge: this had become detached, and it seems empty. I have put it back, but it's still empty. I am afraid the product may not be repairable but I need to be sure. What should I do?

Have you tried cleaning the condensor coils.
