Freezing drain tube

Sometimes what causes this is a obstruction in the drain line. It may be draining, but not fast enough. the water could still be backed up enough to freeze after the defrost cycle. I would clean the line out with compressed air, or flushing water down it. If there is no progress with this, then you can get a drain line defrost heater. they come in all sizes, voltage, and Watts. You should be able to wire it directly into the defrost circuit

Drain keep freezing up at entry point to the drain tube causing water to freeze from the drain top down to the bottom of the freezer. ( frozen waterfall!) Could the defrost heater be malfunctioning? i.e. heats up enought to melt the ice on the coils but not enought to prevent the water from refreezing at the drain opening? I have cleaned the drain line once already only to have the drain freeze again. Worst yet, the water entered the bottom of the door and the doors fiberglass insulation wicked up the water whcih then froze in a sheet, This required the door to be dismanteled to remove the ice and to add new insulation. Appreciate your suggestions and / or advice on how to eliminate the problem. Duane

Not sure of your model number and manufacturer, but in some freezer there is a seperate drain heater that should stay on for the complete defrost time. (the defrost heater will shut off when the evap coil reaches a certain temp, and the rest of the defrost time only the drain heater is energized.) That would be the very first place that I would start. Hope this helps

Drain tube and floor of uprite freezer is plugged with ice. Have previously thawed with a heat gun and it freezes up again in a week or two. The freezer is in our south facing garage, one car parks directly in front, 3 feet away and another car beside the first. Could having the freezer in the car garage have anything to do with the problem?

I bet you don't have that problem in the summer,It is freezing cause of the outside air in the garage gets below freezing. For a quick fix install a heater wire they make them for gutters and plumbing and just run it down the length of the tube and that will do it,short of heating your garage or insulating it

True Freezer T23 compressor will not stop running

Have him check the t'stat. And freon lines. I believe the t'stat is the problem. Are the door gaskets ok and does it seal properly when closed. The fan should always run, so this could be in the rewiring. I am assuming you will be working out of a freezer where the working temp is a little higher.

The freezer does not drain. The water freezes and builds up at the bottom. Thd drain is not plugged but it freezes and prevents the water draining out. The freezer is model # MQU1556AEW MO

If the unit it level, the defrost system is working and there is nothing clogging the drain tube. it should drain. Try leveling the unit, defrosting the inside and remove all ice and water. This will correct the problem. If there is ice or frost built up on the inside lower back panel, you will have a defrost problem. Most likely caused by a bad defrost heater. When you defrost the unit, take the inside lower back panel out. You will see the coil. Look under it and you will find the heater. You can check it continuity. If it shows continuity, it's good and you will need to replace either the timer or the termination thermostat. The termination thermostat can be checked like the heater. It will have to be cold to check correctly.
